What to Expect

Upon arriving at the Emergency Department at Springhill Medical Center you will begin a multistep process designed to deliver professional, efficient, and compassionate urgent and emergent medical care.

You will begin by giving your name and medical complaint at the registration desk.
Next you will be taken to the triage room (one of the assessment rooms adjacent to the registration desk) where a registered nurse will begin the medical interview, take vital signs, and perform a triage exam.

Depending on the severity of complaint and available exam rooms, you will either be placed in the waiting room or in a patient exam room within the Emergency Department. Upon arrival to the exam room, you may be asked to change into a hospital gown in order to gain a more thorough physical exam. Patients are placed in treatment rooms according to severity of their medical condition, not necessarily by time of arrival.

After being placed in the exam room you will be interviewed and examined by an Emergency Medicine Physician who may order x-rays, blood tests, and/or medications. Heart and oxygen monitors may be placed on you in order to closely monitor your condition. The doctor will discuss with you the plan of either admission to the hospital or discharge to home.
